Student Leadership

Student leadership helps young people find their voices, participate in decision-making, and understand their rights and responsibilities as active citizens. It helps students have a real impact on their learning and school environment and prepares them to participate meaningfully in their community.

Students can be leaders in the classroom, through their actions in the playground, through their support for others, or their involvement in academic, sporting, cultural or local community events or projects.

At Harrington Street, students have the opportunity to work in formal student leadership roles by becoming SRC members, prefects or house captains.

For more information about opportunities in NSW public schools, visit Student voice and leadership.

Prefects

Harrington Street Public school prefects are our school leaders and ensure that all students needs are met. They have a range of responsibilities which involve running whole school assemblies alongside the teachers, attending ceremonies such as the ANZAC ceremonies, ensuring teachers receive medical bags during lunch and recess and raising the flags.

SRC members

SRC members allows opportunities for students voices to be heard when making whole school decisions. SRC representatives from each class gather every Monday during lunch to organise fundraisers, to reflect on student input and opinion on whole school improvements and organise school events such as school disco.

House captains

House Captains represent and lead their house groups (Allunga Nalkari, Turana, Mirrabooka). They lead students and encourage students to cheer and support their house groups during school sporting events such as Athletics Carnival, Swimming Carnival and Cross Country. House Captains are also responsible for collecting house points from each class and relaying these points to the students during the whole school assembly.

Library monsters

Library Monsters assist the Librarians in Harrington Street Public School. They volunteer their lunches in organisation of library books, as well as assisting students and teachers to borrow and return books.
