Students at Harrington Street have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of co-curricular and extracurricular activities. There are a variety of extracurricular activities including but not limited to opportunities in sport and performing arts.
Coding club
Coding Club runs for students in Stage 1 to Stage 3. Students meet once a week at lunch time to program robots, build worlds in Minecraft, create games using Scratch and even embark in unplugged coding adventures.
Debating
Stage 3 students compete in the Premier’s Debating Challenge against schools from across New South Wales. Students meet for two lunch times per week to refine their public speaking and rebuttal skills.
Library monsters
Keeping the library at Harrington Street running is a massive job, and would be impossible without our Library Monsters. Library Monsters volunteer their lunch times by helping students borrow, assisting in lunch time activities and ensuring that books are returned to their correct locations.
Maths extension
Students in the OC class are given the opportunity to participate in an advanced maths program run at Canley Vale High School. Selected students visit the high school once a week to further enrich their learning in mathematics.
Performing arts
Band
Students are given an opportunity to learn keyboard and guitar as part of our school band. Mr Josh meets students each morning before school, with differentiated learning opportunities for both beginners and advanced musicians.
Choir
The Choir meets once a week during lunch time to rehearse their singing skills. The Harrington Street Choir performs annually at the Community of Schools Night, as well as part of the Combined Schools Choir.
Dance group
The Junior and Senior Dance Groups spend one lunch time a week practising their best moves. Students perform annually at the Community of Schools Night, and sometimes even at morning assemblies.
Sport
Sports carnivals
We hold three school carnivals annually at Harrington Street. Our Swimming Carnival is held with other schools in our local area and is competitors only. All students are encouraged to participate in our 3-6 Cross Country and Athletics Carnivals.
Students in K-2 look forward to the annual K-2 Athletics Carnival which enables students to compete in a number of fun races and tabloid activities.
