Intellectual Domain
The intellectual domain of potential refers to natural abilities in processing, understanding, reasoning, and the transfer of learning.
Signs of high potential in the intellectual domain include verbal, numerical, logic and spatial aptitudes, synthesis and evaluation, abstract thinking, use of long term and working memory, and problem solving.
Enrichment Classes
At HSPS we offer enrichment classes for students in year 1 to year 6 students using assessment data. These students show apptitude in the intellectual domain and have been grouped into enrichment classes. In these classes they are provided with the opportunity to work to their full potential with extension tasks and open ended challenges. These classes are fluid and change each year.
Stage 3 Classes, STEM Play Day
Students were given the opportunity to learn all about coding in STEM from UTS. They participated in a coding program at school where they learnt key skills and got creative. They were then able to visit UTS on an exciting STEM play day to put all of their new skills to the test.
Opportunity Class, Investigating Air Quality
Students in the Opportunity Class participate in the Fresh Air Innovators Program.
Fresh Air Innovators is a free, curriculum-aligned program developed by the University of NSW and supported by the NSW Office of the Chief Scientist and Engineer through the NSW Natural Hazards STEM Support Program.
Each lesson empowers students with hands-on STEM activities and real-world skills. The program equips students with the means to tackle environmental challenges, build resilience and make a positive impact in their schools and communities.
Year 6 Enrichment and Opportunity Class, Smart Cities
Students in Stage 3 participated in the Smart Cities STEM Project. They were able to be the architects of tomorrow designing automated homes, learning about smart agriculture and drew blueprints for the futuristic cities we dream of.
Using Micro:bits, 3D printing and block coding students were able to bring their ideas to life in this engaging hands on project.
Stages 2 and 3, Spelling Bee
The Premier's Spelling Bee is an engaging way for NSW public primary school students to expand their vocabularies and improve their spelling.
Stages 3, Game Changer Challenge
The Game Changer Challenge is the department’s award-winning design thinking competition.
Stage 3 students who have participated from Harrington Street have been successfull in moving forward into semi final stages where their critical thinking skills come alive.
Wild Words Excursion
Students in the Opportunity Class had the opportunity to develop their writing abilities showing off their creative flare at Longneck Lagoon with students from other schools for a HPGE writing excursion.
